Nesting

Nesting by the colony of captive Testudo hermanni boettgeri takes place in the months of May, June and July usually between 10am and noon. All eggs are removed from the nests, marked with a pencil, weighed, inspected and placed in incubators within one to three hours after laying. A clutch contains on the average six eggs, ranging from 2 up to 15 eggs per clutch.

Some information on nesting, based on observations of a group of approximately 10 female Testudo hermanni boettgeri during a period of 20 years is given in the following figures.
